THE National Telecommunications Commission and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines will sign on Monday regulations governing antipiracy and copyright infringements for the cable television industry after cable TV operators complained of huge losses from communications pirates. The commission now must first evaluate the complaint of cable TV piracy before it could be brought to the IP protection office; and only when the commission finds cause would such complaints be forwarded to the protection office or the courts. The complainant is given 15 days to inform the NTC where he intends to pursue the complaint for IP violation. If the complainant decides to pursue it with the IPOPHIL, the NTC will refer the complaint to the protection office. In renewing its license, the commission will have to see if the cable TV operator had been involved or is involved in a case pending before the IP protection office or the courts involving IP violations. Only those without cases pending or those found not guilty will get a renewal. |
