(Asia Pulse via NewsEdge) Philippine Senator Manuel Roxas III has filed a resolution to probe the consumer concerns on the quality of broadband wireless service in the country.

Senate Resolution 474 directs the Senate committees on public services and on trade and commerce to conduct an investigation in aid of legislation on the dissatisfaction of consumers on numerous imperfections rendered by companies offering broadband Internet service.

In a resolution, Roxas said broadband wireless service is emerging as a new and growing area of telecommunications where wireless networking is seen as the solution to provide Internet access to areas which do not have existing copper or fiber telecommunications structure.

The lawmaker said he decided to make the probe after seeing newspaper reports, blog posts and discussions on the Internet that a number of dissatisfied subscribers to wireless broadband services have failed to receive an acceptable response from their service provider, telecoms regulator National Telecommunications Commission, and the Department of Trade and Industry.

"Dissatisfaction came from numerous disconnections, the lock-in clause in the subscribers' contacts with their service provider, and the incompetence of the service providers technical support and customer care personnel," he said.
