FILPINO-American venture capitalist Diosdado Banatao is scheduled to meet with local media Tuesday to share his experiences in Silicon Valley as a technology entrepreneur.

Currently the chairman of SirF Technology, the so-called "Intel of GPS devices," Banatao has been key founder and investor in numerous Silicon Valley startups such as Chips Technologies, S3, and Marvell Technology.

Banatao is now regarded as a major contributor to the PC industry. He holds several patents including the first Windows graphical user interface (GUI) accelerator chip. He also was the first to push the idea of the "local bus" for the PC, and putting the Ethernet controller on a chip.

Born and raised in Barrio Malabbac, Iguig, Cagayan Valley, Banatao eventually co-founded Mostron, Chips Technologies, and S3 now known as SonicBlue.

Chips Technologies eventually went public in 1995, 22 months after it was established. This company was subsequently bought by Intel in 1997 for a reported 430 million dollars.

His other company, S3 (start-up number 3) also went public and earned 130 million dollars in 1993.

Banatao is now a managing partner of Tallwood Venture Capital, seeking out new investments in high-end semiconductor business.

He has been placed by Forbes in its Midas List, and was eventually awarded Master Entrepreneur of the year in the US by Ernst & Young.

He finished his undergraduate studies at the Mapua Institute of Technology with a BS in Electrical Engineering and later trained to become a pilot at Philippine Airlines. He was eventually hired by Boeing for an engineering job.

He later took his Masters in Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford University.
