INFORMATICS student Francis Michael Anthony Lloren can assemble a desktop computer in seven minutes and 22.83 seconds. That feat landed him the title of fastest geek or PC builder in a recent national competition.

Besting other students from other local universities, Lloren said that he joined the competition mainly to represent his school. Lloren defeated other representatives from eight colleges, including University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Mapua, Adamson, AMA, University of Santo Tomas, and Don Bosco in a PC-building competition in August.

"Trip, trip lang," Lloren told INQ7.net, indicating that he did it all in the name of fun.

He eventually was ranked third in the regional championship held recently at the World Cyber Games (WCG) in Suntec City, Singapore, where he competed against representatives from Singapore and Indonesia.

Now a senior at Informatics, Lloren is taking up both Computer Science and Information Technology courses.

In the Philippine finals, which was hosted by PC Magazine, he assembled a multimedia PC, complete with accessories. Each contestant had to make sure the PC would be fully functional once they were done assembling it.

Apart from his interest in computers, Lloren is a member of the Philippine Ice Hockey Team since 2003. He said he spends Friday nights practicing with his teammates. He has in fact participated in the International Amateur Ice Hockey Competition for two consecutive years.

Lloren also spends time helping manage his grandmother's Internet cafe, selling computer parts online, and working as an audio-visual technician for events. He explained that he began to work part-time when his father died two years ago, helping his mother augment the family income. It was in 2003 when he decided to pursue a degree in IT instead of engineering.

The PC building contest is an annual regional event sponsored by PC Magazine.
