A PHILIPPINE start-up firm says it is exploring the business of offering online backup services.

Run by a small team in Makati City, Xackup is currently at the early stages of developing the online service, according to founder Terence Pua, who is also behind the development of Friendster Philippines.

As the cost of storage technology and bandwidth plummets, Pua believes there is a market for online backup services.

"We want to be at the crosshairs of that collision specializing in 'vertical' backups. We don't want to compete with other generic backup providers but want to create an integrated 'one-button' backup plus restore solution to different products," the executive wrote in the startup's blog.

He said Xackup will focus initially on providing online backup services for e-mail, dubbed Xackmail and music, called Xacktunes.

The startup is inviting people to test its services.
